I’ve worked in salons since I was 16, experiencing the industry from every angle-receptionist, assistant, colorist, and now co-owner. Each role has shaped my belief that every person in a salon plays a vital part in creating a thoughtful, seamless experience for our guests. I’ve paired that perspective with my passion for people to help build Blackbird into a space that feels comfortable, kind, and elevated.

When it comes to hair, my specialty is low maintenance. Feeling confident shouldn’t require exhaustive maintenance routines. I love hair that enhances natural tones, textures, and routines - I’m best known for lived in blondes and brunettes. I’ve also trained in grey blending techniques that soften regrowth without full coverage, allowing for an effortless grow out. I value staying on trend while remaining grounded in what feels timeless and custom to my guest.

Outside of the salon, I’m happiest in moments of quiet. I love naps, reading, birdwatching, and enjoying a little peace and relaxation whenever I can find it. That being said, I am also known to take on a million home projects in a single day - from gardening to carpentry - while constantly being fueled almost entirely by Diet Coke, which may or may not be running through my veins.

Blackbird is a new chapter for me—and one I’ve always dreamed of. Owning my own business has allowed me to create a space where creativity thrives, community comes first, and everyone who walks through the doors feels seen, welcomed, and beautiful. In all my years behind the chair, I’ve also fallen in love with teaching and mentoring the next generation of stylists, while continually learning from my peers. Blackbird is more than a salon to me it’s my second home.

Behind the chair, I specialize in hair color and extension work, with a deep love for red hair transformations. Over the years, I’ve proudly built a bit of a ginger army here in DC. I also love creating dimensional blondes and expressive fantasy colors. Anything that allows clients to step fully into their most confident, authentic selves.
​
Outside of the salon, I’m usually baking sourdough bread, chasing a goal of reading 50–100 books a year, daydreaming, or traveling the world. I also take my hobbies very seriously—especially the ongoing hunt for the best (and most sour) lemonade.

Born in the Dominican Republic and fueled by family, travel, and great food, I’m a cutting-focused stylist with a specialty in curly hair. I love working with all lengths and textures, but helping clients embrace and elevate their natural curls is where my passion lives.
Outside the salon, I travel as often as possible, hunt down the best food spots around the DMV, and recently fell in love with audiobooks, while learning to knit. At home, I’m also a proud cat mom to two very spoiled cats.
Favorite products: Kevin Murphy (Body Mass is a standout) and The Innersense Line —absolute curl essentials.

I live in Alexandria Va with my boyfriend and my sweet dog. I am originally from Canada and every summer my family and I go to my favorite place in the world: our lakeside cottage on Pike Lake in Canada. I am an avid book lover and reader. Finding new hikes with my dog, or going to pilates/spin class is how I like to spend my days off.
I am a color specialist, and I love creating lived in color looks that work best for my clients lifestyle. My favorite thing is when my clients come back after months and are still in love with their hair! One of my strong suits is bright and dimensional blondes.

Favorite products: Olaplex No 3. for damage repair, Kevin Murphy's Body Mass made my hair feel so much thicker and it smells like cotton candy. Lastly, Amika Supernova Moisture Cream before I air dry or blow dry to leave my hair soft and shiny!

I’m known for my precision and creativity, and I’m especially sought after for edgier cuts from pixies, bixies, and shags to bobs and soft, lived-in layers. Cutting is where I shine, and it’s truly my craft.

Outside of Blackbird, I’m usually cooking, skateboarding, antiquing, wandering the grocery store for fun, or embroidering and knitting at home with my cat always close by.

I’m a 4th generation Washington DC hairstylist. I started doing hair at a young age and knew then it was something I would love everyday if I chose to do it as a career. I feel incredibly fortunate to have landed a career that I’m passionate about. I believe you can never stop learning or honing your craft, which is why 16 years into being a stylist, I crave staying up to date with the latest techniques and trends.
When I’m not behind the chair you can find me elbow deep in motherhood, raising a teenager and two toddlers alongside my long time partner and high school sweetheart. Life is colorful and messy and I strive to find the magic in the smallest corners of our lives.

I am a Pacific Northwest native, while I’m not originally from Orcas Island, my husband and I are currently building our dream home there, a place that reflects my love for nature, balance, and creating something meaningful.

Behind the chair, I bring intention and thoughtfulness into everything I do, practicing with purpose and long-term goals in mind. I love partnering with my clients to create sustainable hair routines, color that will live well, and educating them on how to care for their hair both in and outside of the salon so their results truly last.

Outside of work, I love to cook and bake everything from scratch, feels like my love language. I enjoy travel when possible, and spend my free time exploring the city with my dog.

I specialize in high-impact blondes, dimensional brunettes, and balayage, paired with effortless, low-maintenance trims and haircuts that grow out beautifully. I am devoted to always learning new techniques and perfecting my craft so that i can continue to provide the best for my clients!

I’m a hairstylist and hair care provider with a multicultural approach, proudly serving a diverse clientele here in the DMV. I’ve had a love for hair and fashion for as long as I can remember, and that passion continues to shape the way I work with every guest in my chair.

Hi, I’m Carmen! I was born and raised in Maryland and have been part of the Blackbird team for two years. I love all things color—whether it’s soft, lived-in balayage, dimensional highlights, bold creative color blocking, or full-on fantasy shades. I also specialize in haircuts that focus on maintenance and movement, from long layers and soft shags to edgier styles.

When I’m not behind the chair, you can probably find me deep in TikTok, laughing at memes, or obsessing over the latest in makeup and fashion. I love connecting with my clients, listening to their stories, and making sure they leave my chair feeling like the best version of themselves. Oh, and if you see me with a Redbull or candy in hand—it’s just my lifeline.
